Joseph P. Grieco

My approach with pastel, oil, or acrylic is simple and direct in that it is governed primarily by my personal desire to create a good picture. Most importantly, is the work be truthful and exist as the result of a communion between the myself and subject. When this happens the subject matter becomes, in essence, entirely secondary. My endeavor is to translate to the viewer that which I have experienced in an evocative and sensitive way. At this point, if the painting is what I consider a success, the viewer can experience and expand upon it in his or her or own personal way.

I am honored to be able to communicate with both the landscape around me and to the people who cross my path. It has often been pointed out to me that my work has a very spiritual feeling to it. However, it is my feeling that in terms of the work I create, I am simply an instrument. The beauty and sensitivity belong to a far greater source.
