Giclee Prints of a Thomas Adkins Kent Barn Scene Available

Giclee prints of Thomas Adkins' painting “Barnyard Crows Kent Hollow Road” are now available in two sizes at the Gregory James Gallery.Plein air painter Thomas Adkins, considered one of the finest landscape artists in the Northeast, is known for masterfully recording the moods and mystique of New England farms and barns in all seasons.

His oil-on-linen painting “Barnyard Crows Kent Hollow Road” is a perfect example. A classic barn, its roofs capped by snow, sits by the side of the road in the winter light like a sage, silent sentry as crows congregate.

Giclee prints of the painting are now available in two sizes at the Gregory James Gallery, 20-by-20 inches ($350) and 24-by-24 inches ($450).

The original painting is also available, price on request.

As a plein air painter, Adkins begins his paintings on location, typically with sketches and small studies that develop into larger final compositions in the studio.

“The moods, mystery, and atmosphere of the seasons, along with the inherent design of nature, intrigue me, and I seek to unveil and express those qualities in my paintings, trying to document a specific place and time – because every day and every hour, nature imprints a different feeling on our senses,” Adkins has said.

One critic describes his work this way: Lyrical, evocative, and quietly rhapsodic, Thomas Adkins’ paintings capture evanescent moments in time when the atmospheric conditions and lighting bring a bit of magic to the landscape.

His artwork has been exhibited throughout the U.S. and is included in prestigious collections, including those of the New Britain Museum of American Art and Mattatuck Museum of Art, as well as many private and corporate collections, including those of Aetna Insurance, Timex, Webster Bank, and the Hilton Hotels Private Collection.

Adkins is a member of many prestigious artist organizations, such as Oil Painters of America, and the Connecticut Plein Air Painters Society. He is a Signature Member of The Lyme Art Association and a Hudson Valley Art Association board member.

A graduate of Paier College of Art of New Haven, who also completed graduate classes at the School of Visual Arts of New York, Adkins has worked as art director and creative director for some of Connecticut’s and New York’s most prestigious advertising agencies. His designs and illustrations have been used by Black & Decker, Kraft Foods, GE, IBM, Minolta, Nestlé Waters North America.
